O messenger of the east breeze, may I be your ransom—convey
the intensity of my longing, if you can, and my passion.
وتحمّلْand carry نحْوَtoward القِبابِthe domes سَلاماًa greeting
يزْدَريlooks with scorn عرْفُهُits fragrance بأزْهارِupon the flowers of نَجْدِNajd
And carry toward the domes a greeting
whose fragrance puts the flowers of Najd to shame.
ثمّthen قبِّلْkiss بكَفِّupon the palm of موْلايَmy master عنّيon my behalf
وتحدّثْand speak بِماof what أُعيدُI repeat وأبْديand I reveal
Then kiss my master's palm on my behalf,
and speak of what I repeat and reveal.
ولْتُشاهِدْand behold ذاكَthat الجَمالَbeauty بطَرْفيwith my eye

ولْتَطَأْand tread upon ذالِكَthat التُّرابَdust بخَدّيwith my cheek
And behold that beauty with my eye,
and tread upon that dust with my cheek.

And be gentle, for it is only a whispered confidence
that longing has poured out between a master and a servant.
