O Caliph of God, may fate aid

your exalted rank as long as a moon shines in the darkness.

And may the hand of His power ward off from you

    what humankind cannot repel.

We have no refuge in which to place our hope

but you; you are our support and refuge.

Your face in calamities is a full moon in the darkness

for us; in drought, your hand is the rain.

And all the people in the land of al-Andalus—

but for you, they would neither have settled nor built it up.

And, in sum, it is a homeland

that desires nothing but your exalted glory.

And those within it, since you joined their cord,

have neither denied a favor nor been ungrateful.

And their own lives have filled them with anxiety,

so they sent me to you and waited.
