On Thursday, the delight of my eye departed.

God suffices me—what a scene of parting!

If the scene of separation could cause a living soul's death,

The day of farewell would, by God, have been my death.

The vicissitudes of these nights have hemmed me in,

And prolonged my sorrow and put off paying my due.

    A far-off homeland, and a scattered company—

How can one in torment live on after these two?

O my God, in Your kindness, come to the aid of my weakness.

Indeed, what I complain of is no light matter.
