مَوْلاَيَ ثَانِيةٌ مِنْ لَيْلِكَ انْصَرَمَتْ

مَوْلاَيَ ثَانِيةٌ مِنْ لَيْلِكَ انْصَرَمَتْ

وَجَمْرَةَ الشَوْقِ مِنْ بَعْدِ الْوُقُوفِ رَمَتْ

وَجَمْرَةَ الشَوْقِ مِنْ بَعْدِ الْوُقُوفِ رَمَتْ

My lord, a second of your night has slipped away,

My Master, another night of yours has passed

And cast the ember of longing after the halt.

And the embers of yearning after standing have died down

كَأَنَّهَا دُرَّةٌ فِي الْكَفِّ قّدْ سّقّطّتْ

كَأَنَّهَا دُرَّةٌ فِي الْكَفِّ قّدْ سّقّطّتْ

مِنْ سِلْكِهَا وَهَوَتْ مَنْ بَعْدِ مَا انْتَظَمَتْ

مِنْ سِلْكِهَا وَهَوَتْ مَنْ بَعْدِ مَا انْتَظَمَتْ

As though it were a pearl that had fallen into the palm,

As if it were a pearl in the palm that had slipped

From its thread, and dropped after being strung.

From its thread and fallen after it had been strung

شَأْنُ الزَّمَانِ افْتِرَاقٌ بَعْدَ مُجْتَمَعٍ

شَأْنُ الزَّمَانِ افْتِرَاقٌ بَعْدَ مُجْتَمَعٍ

وَأَحْرُفٌ مُحِيَتْ مِنْ بَعْدِ مَا رُسِمَتْ

وَأَحْرُفٌ مُحِيَتْ مِنْ بَعْدِ مَا رُسِمَتْ

Time's way is parting after a gathering,

The way of time is separation after gathering

And letters erased after they were inscribed.

And letters erased after they had been drawn

فَمَنْ يَكُنْ قَامَ بِالْبَاقِي وَحُدَّ لَهُ

فَمَنْ يَكُنْ قَامَ بِالْبَاقِي وَحُدَّ لَهُ

قَيْدُ الزَّمَانِ تَرَقَّتْ نَفْسُهُ وَسَمَتْ

قَيْدُ الزَّمَانِ تَرَقَّتْ نَفْسُهُ وَسَمَتْ

So whoever subsists through the Everlasting, and for whom

So whoever stood with the Everlasting and made Him

Time's fetter has been limited—his soul has risen and soared.

His guide, the shackles of time fell away from his soul and it transcended

إِنْ تَنْصَرِفْ نَحْوَ عَيْنِ الْجَمْعِ مَا انْفَرَقَتْ

إِنْ تَنْصَرِفْ نَحْوَ عَيْنِ الْجَمْعِ مَا انْفَرَقَتْ

أَوْ تَتَّصِفْ بِوُجُودِ الْحَقِّ مَا انْعَدَمَتْ

أَوْ تَتَّصِفْ بِوُجُودِ الْحَقِّ مَا انْعَدَمَتْ

If it turns toward the essence of union, it will not be divided;

If you turn towards the eye of the group it would not separate

Or takes on the being of the Real, it will not cease to exist.

Or if you characterize yourself with the existence of Truth it would not cease to be

فَلِلشَّرِيعةِ مِنْهَا الْعِلْمُ إِنْ سئلت

فَلِلشَّرِيعةِ مِنْهَا الْعِلْمُ إِنْ سئلت

عما به عملت فيما به علمت

عما به عملت فيما به علمت

So its knowledge belongs to the sacred Law, if it is asked

For the Sacred Law from it is knowledge, if asked

About what it practiced concerning what it knew.

About what it did regarding what it knew

ولِلْحَقِيقَةِ مِنْهَا السِّرُّ إِنْ نَظَرَتْ

ولِلْحَقِيقَةِ مِنْهَا السِّرُّ إِنْ نَظَرَتْ

بَدَا لَهَا الشَّفْعُ وِتْراً عِنْدَمَا حَكَمَتْ

بَدَا لَهَا الشَّفْعُ وِتْراً عِنْدَمَا حَكَمَتْ

And its secret belongs to Reality, if it contemplates:

And for Reality from it is mystery, if glanced at

The pair appeared to it as one when it judged.

Duality appeared to it as even when it decreed oneness

هَذَا الْكَمَالُ فَإِنْ تُلْمِمْ بِسَاحَتِهِ

هَذَا الْكَمَالُ فَإِنْ تُلْمِمْ بِسَاحَتِهِ

وَسَلَّمَ اللهُ مِنْ غَوْلِ السُّرَى سَلِمَتْ

وَسَلَّمَ اللهُ مِنْ غَوْلِ السُّرَى سَلِمَتْ

This is perfection; if you alight in its courtyard,

This perfection, so if you seek its plain

And God grants safety from the peril of night travel, the soul is safe.

And God protects from the injustice of suspicions, you are safe

يَامَنْ بِهِ اتَّصَلَ المُستَمْسِكُونَ بِهِ

يَامَنْ بِهِ اتَّصَلَ المُستَمْسِكُونَ بِهِ

رُحْمَاكَ فِي أَنْفُسٍ عَنْ جَمْعِهَا قُسِمَتْ

رُحْمَاكَ فِي أَنْفُسٍ عَنْ جَمْعِهَا قُسِمَتْ

O You with whom those who hold fast to You are united,

O You through whom the adherents are connected to Him

Have mercy on souls sundered from their union!

Your mercy upon selves divided from their whole

إِنْ لَمْ تَجُدْكَ وَلَمْ تَحْرِمْكَ فِي نَفَسٍ

إِنْ لَمْ تَجُدْكَ وَلَمْ تَحْرِمْكَ فِي نَفَسٍ

وَاللهِ مَا وَجَدَتْ شَيْئَاً وَلاَ حَرَمَتْ

وَاللهِ مَا وَجَدَتْ شَيْئَاً وَلاَ حَرَمَتْ

If they neither find You nor are deprived of You in a breath,

If you do not find You and are not deprived of You within a soul

By God, they have found nothing and been deprived of nothing.

By God it found nothing and deprived nothing
