May the night-roaming clouds water the grounds of Fez,
The clouds' water-carriers rained down on the square of Fez
pouring down, clothing the trees in beautiful raiment.
The stars adorned the pasture with beauty's dress
وسارَand traveled بتَسْليميwith my greeting لسُدّةِto the threshold of فارِسٍFaris
وسارَ بتَسْليمي لسُدّةِ فارِسٍ

نَسيمٌ سَرى للسّلسَبيلِ بكاسِ
And my greeting was carried to the threshold of Faris
And with my greeting a gentle breeze flowed to the water-seller with a cup
by a breeze that traveled by night to Salsabil with a cup.
The lamp of the night journey is a sun borrowing light from the brilliance
سِراجُa lamp for السّرىnight journeys شمْسٌa sun سَماrose high قبَسُthe flame of السّناradiance

كَسا ساطِياتِ الأُسْدِ لِبْسَةَ باسِ
A lamp for night journeys, a sun whose radiant flame rose high,
Like the lions with their majestic garments of might
he clothed the charging lions in a garb of might.
I was charmed by its pasture’s strut and grew familiar
أنِسْتُI found comfort بمَسْرَىin the flow of سَيْبِهِhis bounty وتأنّسَتْand found comfort
أنِسْتُ بمَسْرَى سَيْبِهِ وتأنّسَتْ

بساحَتِهِ نفْسي وأسْعِدَ ناسِي
I found comfort in the flow of his bounty, and so did
With its square, and my soul was made happy, causing my people to forget
my soul in his courtyard; and my people were made glad.
I facilitated the path of ease, and my envoy was granted success
ويُسِّرْتُand I was enabled لليُسْرىto attain ease ويُسِّرَand was aided مُرْسَليmy envoy
ويُسِّرْتُ لليُسْرى ويُسِّرَ مُرْسَلي

وسُدِّدَ سَهْمي واسْتَقامَ قِياسي
And I was enabled to attain ease, and my envoy was aided;
My arrow was guided straight and my aim held true
and my arrow was aimed true, and my reasoning became sound.
