جَعْسوسُ يا شَرَّ طيْرِ

لا يُؤْتَ يوْماً بخَيْرِ

لا يُؤْتَ يوْماً بخَيْرِ

Jaʿsūs, O worst of birds,

may no good ever be brought to you!

شبّهْتُ قرْنَكَ لمّا

شبّهْتُ قرْنَكَ لمّا

أعْمَلْتَ مُسْرِعَ سَيْرِ

أعْمَلْتَ مُسْرِعَ سَيْرِ

I likened your horn, when

you set it moving at a hurried pace,

صَفيحَةً قد تدلّتْ

صَفيحَةً قد تدلّتْ

منْ خلْفِ حافِرِ عيْرِ

منْ خلْفِ حافِرِ عيْرِ

to a plate that had dangled

behind a donkey’s hoof.
