أُكَابِدُ مِنْ شَوْقٍ إِلَيْهِ وَمِنْ حُزْنِ
In proportion to what shines forth of that beauty,
In proportion to what is attained of that beauty
I endure longing for it and sorrow.
I suffer from yearning for it and from sorrow

تَعَدَّيْتُ طَوْرِي فِيهِ غَيّبَنِي عَنِّي
Its subtle graces have spared me; so whenever
Its charms have remained with me so whenever
I overstep my bounds in it, it makes me lose myself.
I exceed my proper bounds therein it makes me forget myself
حَنَانَيْكَyour mercy, I beg! تَكْفِيsuffices for مُهْجَتِيmy soul مِنْكَfrom you نَظْرَةٌa glance

Mercy, mercy! One glance from you suffices for my soul;
Your affection suffices my innermost being a glance from you
And what a triumph for my lot-drawing arrow, if you accept one from me!
And oh my triumph if you are pleased with it from me
