والليْلُand the night قدalready مدّspread عَلَيْناover us الجَناحْthe wing
I said to the bell in Martush,
while night had spread its wing over us:
أغْرَبْتَyou have gone to excess طولاًin duration ياO غُرابَraven of الدُجىthe darkness
فلَمْso did not تَرَyou consider اللّيلَةَtonight عنّاaway from us بَراحْdeparting
You have lingered too long, O raven of darkness,
and have not thought of leaving us tonight.
فخُذْso take علَىupon نفْسِكَyourself لاdo not تَغْتَرِرْbe deceived

So be on your guard; do not be deceived:
Dawn’s falcon has already shaken the bell.
