تعرّفْتُ قُرْبَ الدّارِ ممّنْ أحبُّهُ

تعرّفْتُ قُرْبَ الدّارِ ممّنْ أحبُّهُ

فكُنْتُ أجِدُّ السّيْرَ لوْلا ضَرورَهْ

فكُنْتُ أجِدُّ السّيْرَ لوْلا ضَرورَهْ

I learned from one I love that the abode was near;

I knew the proximity of the house of the one I love

So I would have hastened on my way, were it not for necessity,

So I hastened my pace were it not for necessity

لأتْلوَ منْ آيِ المَحامِدِ سورَةً

لأتْلوَ منْ آيِ المَحامِدِ سورَةً

وأبْصِرُ منْ شخْصِ المحاسِنِ صورَهْ

وأبْصِرُ منْ شخْصِ المحاسِنِ صورَهْ

To recite a chapter from the verses of praise,

I would recite from the verses of praise a whole chapter

And behold an image of beauty personified.

And see in the image of beauty its epitome
