I esteem you too highly for reproach that diminishes affection.

And I honor the grounds for your excuse too much to reject them.

But I offer you my counsel,

Though I have offered it before, and it then proved fruitless.

When a person's tongue oversteps its bounds,

Its intended meanings turn into their opposite.

So its seriousness becomes blameworthy jest,

And its jest takes on the form of seriousness.

So I hold the reins as best I can, for that

Is the trait most worthy of eminence and glory.
