    حَسْبُ نَفسي يَراعَتي ودَواتِي

    I did not count the keen sword among my tools;

    my reed pen and inkwell were enough for me.

    So today my hand brings together the sword

    and the scribes’ reed pen, after my dispersal.

    May God reward the blessings that clothed me

    in embroidered robes of benevolence and favor.

    I am a servant; my master has set my form upright.

    I deserved nothing in my own right.

    And likewise, creation is of dust, yet

    God breathed into it the spirit of life.
