لَم أَجْنِ مِنْ مِنْحَتِي شَيْئاً سِوَى مِحَنِ
I complain to God of my anguish and my sorrow.
I complain to God of my anguish and my sorrow
I have reaped nothing from my gift but afflictions.
I have gained nothing from my love except for tribulation

The eye that loosed its dart struck al-Hasan;
The beautiful eyes that shot me with arrows have hit their mark
And the eye's habit is to strike dead none but the beautiful.
And the eyes' habit is to target nothing but beauty
