so why is it sentenced to everlasting torment?

My soul's destruction in loving you is its life,

and my heart's annihilation in your approval is its existence.

And an exquisite lightning-flash has grieved me,

grieving the lovesick lover, stricken in heart.

a spark its fire-sticks struck through the clouds.

so I thought my eye was watering it then.

and its lingering rain were his generosity.

    A king who established justice, its shade fluttering;

so justice has a fluttering canopy that stretches far.

that decreed in his favor that kings are his servants.

his banners, with the anemones of mighty victory.

And he prepared war's armaments—steeds standing poised,

his lions advancing upon their eagles.

    ما إنْ تُحَطُّ عنِ الحُروبِ لُبودُهُ

    so its rosy tint appeared upon their flat sides;

with its lightning and thunder bending over it,

scattered like pearls released by their necklaces,

as though it had grown tipsy on the riverbank,

its drunken reveler beginning to disclose its secret,

and an iris whose striped robes were rent,

whose bowing and prostration never cease,

until its pillar rose above the sky.

abasement, and its obstinate adherent sought peace from you.

an increase of God's bounty pours abundantly.

harm—God surely plots against him on your behalf.
