وَحُبُّهَا فِي الْحَشَى مِنْ قَبْلِ تَكْوِينِي
Ask why Salma sears me with the fire of separation,
And love for her was in my breast before my creation.
وَفِيand in مُنَاهَاhopes of her تَمَنَّيتُI wished الْمُنَىwishes فَغَداthen became

And in hopes of her I wished for every wish; then grew
My heart sorrowful, confiding its affliction to me.

By heartbreak; perhaps you will revive me with a sip to quench thirst.

Muhammad, the Chosen, the Elect, whose
Signs appeared, bringing solace to every grieving soul.

That no messenger who brought the faith had attained.

The meteors of dark nights into missiles against the devils.

And water from his hand put the Jayhun to shame.

Virtuous, compassionate, merciful toward the needy.

And if he stepped upon rock, the rock became like clay.

As though the sand had the rock’s hardness,
Out of longing, and the rock had the sand’s softness.

And the date cluster moaned for him—what moaning!

In articulate speech, without any prompting.

And the gazelle and the desert lizard came, bearing witness that
Nothing is greater than Ta-Ha and Ya-Sin.

How, then, can I do justice in praising his virtues?
Yet his acceptance of me is enough for me.

And kiss the dust, hoping reunion will revive me.

Calling out with a sorrow-stricken heart:

You may save me from the terror of the Day of Meeting and Gathering.
