وقدْ قدِمَتْ من قلْبِها نسْمَةُ الفَجْرِ
As though I were the sun’s disk at its rising,
As if I were the sun's disk at sunrise,
And the dawn breeze has come from its heart.
And the breeze of dawn had come from its heart.

حديثُ وِصالٍ جاءَ في زمَنِ الهَجْرِ
As though my breeze, while the midday heat is encamped,
As if my breeze and murmuring were the cooing
Were a tale of union come in a time of separation.
Of a conversation of reunion in the time of estrangement.

Or else, like what blew in the heat of battle:
Otherwise it is as the gale blew with raging tumult,
The east wind of victory—but from the banners of Banu Nasr.
The morning of victory, but among the tents of the tribe of Nasr.
