  1. أما قصورك كلما أنشأتها

    فقصورنا عنها من الأدراك

    As for your palaces, whenever you build them,

    our failure to fathom them is itself a form of understanding.

  2. لما دعوت لها المعادن أرسلت

    أفلاذها من دون ما استمساك

    When you summoned the mines for them, they sent forth

    their fragments, holding nothing back.

  3. ووفت بحق القبة العليا التي

    نادت بها عجلاً فقالت هاك

    And they fulfilled their duty to the lofty dome, which

    had called for them in haste; so they said, “Take this!

  4. لم أهد بابك مرمري لكنه

    ثغري أشرفه بلثم ثراك

    What I offered your gate was not my marble, but

    my mouth, which I ennoble by kissing your dust.”
