خَلِيلىَّ مِن عَوفٍ عَفا اللهُ عَنكُما

خَلِيلىَّ مِن عَوفٍ عَفا اللهُ عَنكُما

أَلِمّا بِها إن كان يُرجَى كَلامُهَا

أَلِمّا بِها إن كان يُرجَى كَلامُهَا

My two friends from ʿAwf, may God pardon you both;

My friend from kindness, may God forgive you both

Call on her, if there is hope that she will speak.

Do visit her, if her speech can be hoped for

وَإِنَّ مَقِيلاً عِندَ ظَمياءَ ساعةً

وَإِنَّ مَقِيلاً عِندَ ظَمياءَ ساعةً

لَنا خَلَفٌ مِن لَومِةٍ سَنُلامُهَا

لَنا خَلَفٌ مِن لَومِةٍ سَنُلامُهَا

Indeed, an hour’s midday rest beside Ẓamyāʾ

And if a visitor stays with a tender one for an hour

Is recompense for us for the reproach we shall incur.

We will have immunity from blame, we will blame it
