أُقُولُI say وَقَدand indeed أَجَدَّhas become urgent رَحيلُdeparture صَحبِيmy companions
لِحَادِيَّto my two camel-drivers اهدِياguide (you two) هَدياًguidance جَمِيلاgentle
I say, as my companions' departure grows urgent,
I say, now that the departure of my companion is certain
to my two camel-drivers: Lead on with gentle guidance.
Give guidance, O guide, to guidance, a fine gift
أَلِمّاpay a visit (you two) قَبلَbefore ببَينِكُماat your parting (you two) بِسَلمَىto Salma
فَقُولاthen say (you two) أَنتِyou ضامِنَةٌanswerable for قَتِيلاa slain man
Call on Salma before you two depart,
When you meet at Salma, say: you are responsible for the slain
then say: You are answerable for a slain man,
He hoped to attain your friendship, but you denied him
رَجاhe hoped for مِنكِfrom you النَّوالَbounty فَلَمbut did not تُنِيلِىyou bestow
وَقَدand indeed أَورثتِهِyou bequeathed him سُقماًan illness طَوِيلاprolonged
who hoped for your bounty, but you gave him none,
And caused him grievous sickness.
and you have bequeathed him a lingering illness.
If Salma grants you safety, then we
فَإِنso if وصَلَتكُماshe shows you both affection سَلمَىSalma فَإِنَّاthen indeed we
نَرَىwe deem فِىin الحَقِّwhat is right أنthat نَصِلَwe show affection to الوَصُولاthe affectionate person
So if Salma shows you both affection, then we
See it right to attain arrival
deem it right to return affection to the affectionate.
But if you sense meanness, we are not
وَإِنand if آنستُماyou both perceive بُخلاًstinginess فَلَسنَاthen we are not
بِأَوَّلِthe first مَنone who رَجاplaced hope in حَرَجاًa narrow-hearted person بَخِيلاmiserly
And if you both perceive stinginess, then we are not
The first to hope for grace from one mean
the first to place our hopes in a narrow-hearted miser.
