Peace, peace, like musk at the close,

Upon you, our beloved ones, O noble ones,

And those whose remembrance is our solace in the dark,

And a light for us among these people.

You dwell in my heart, by the Lord of all servants,

And you are my wish and my utmost desire.

Will you, then, gladden me with pure affection?

And will you grant me a noble station?

I am your servant, O dear people of fidelity,

And nearness to you is relief from my sorrow and healing.

So do not sicken me with prolonged estrangement,

And favor me with union, even if only in a dream.

I die and live in love for you,

And my humility is before you, my honor through you.

And my soul's comforts lie in hope of nearness to you,

And my resolve and purpose are always toward you.

So may I not live if my heart grows content

With distance from its people and homeland,

And those whose love has dwelt within my breast

And permeated every bone in me.

When remembrance of the beloved passes through the heart,

And of Wadi al-Aqiq and that dune,

It sways like a fresh, supple bough,

And quivers with its longing and passion.

I die, yet have not visited that courtyard,

And those tents, where all I long for lies,

Nor have I ever drawn near with those who drew near

To kiss the face and drink the wine.

If this is so, alas for my exile,

And alas for my long sorrow and anguish!

And I have good hope, through which I draw near

To my Lord; He is enough for me, O lad.

May God quench the burning thirst of estrangement

Through union with the beloved ones and release from bonds.

    يجود على من يشا بالمرام

    For my Lord is merciful, generous, loving;

He generously grants the desired goal to whomever He wills.
