لعيش تقضي ما أسر وما أحلى

My friend, longing had almost worn away

My beloved, longing has almost worn me out

For a life gone by—how joyous, how sweet!

For a life that fulfills what was tied and made sweet

فجدده للصب ذكر مذكر

فجدده للصب ذكر مذكر

فعاد إلى ما كان من زمن ولي

فعاد إلى ما كان من زمن ولي

Then someone's reminding renewed it for the lovesick lover,

So renew it for the youth with a reminder of memories

And it returned to what it had been in a time gone by.

And it will return to what it was in days past

ووصل خرود غادة أريحية

ووصل خرود غادة أريحية

سبتني بحسن ما أتم وما أجلى

سبتني بحسن ما أتم وما أجلى

And union with a bashful maiden, graceful and noble-hearted,

And the cooing of a gentle, comforted dove reached me

Who captivated me with beauty—how perfect, how radiant!

Bewitching me with the perfection of her beauty and grace

ولطف دلال راق في كل مسمع

ولطف دلال راق في كل مسمع

بلا ريبة حاشا ولا شهوة كلا

بلا ريبة حاشا ولا شهوة كلا

And gentle coquetry that charmed every ear,

And the charm of her flirtatious glances in every gathering

Without suspicion—far be it!—or lust—certainly not!

Without any doubt or forbidden desire

لها منظر كالبدر عند تمامه

لها منظر كالبدر عند تمامه

وثغر به شهد ودر فما أحلى

وثغر به شهد ودر فما أحلى

She has a countenance like the moon at its fullness,

She has the visage of a full moon at its peak

And a mouth containing honey and pearls—how sweet!

And a mouth with honey and pearls, how sweet!

إذا أسفرت في يوم عيد تزاحمت

إذا أسفرت في يوم عيد تزاحمت

عليه عيون والقلوب بها تملي

عليه عيون والقلوب بها تملي

When she unveils herself on a feast day, there throng

When she emerges on a festive day, eyes vie

Eyes upon it, while hearts take their fill of her.

For her, and hearts dictate to them

وكم من يدكم من فم متبرك

وكم من يدكم من فم متبرك

بمسح وتقبيل وقد بلغوا الوصلا

بمسح وتقبيل وقد بلغوا الوصلا

And how many hands, how many mouths seek blessing

And how many blessed hands have touched

By touching and kissing, having attained union!

Her mouth with caress and kiss, having attained union

رعى اللَه ذاك الوجه وهي بأسرها

رعى اللَه ذاك الوجه وهي بأسرها

وجوه لمن للَه ما أعلى

وجوه لمن للَه ما أعلى

May God preserve that face; she, in her entirety,

May God protect that face, hers entirely

Is all faces—for whom? By God, how exalted! [Wording unclear.]

And the faces of those whose elevation is for God

ومتلتزم والحجر ثم حطميه

ومتلتزم والحجر ثم حطميه

مقام وكم للَه من آية تتلى

مقام وكم للَه من آية تتلى

And the Multazam, the Stone, then its Hatim,

Clinging, then break the necklace, a stance

The Station—and how many of God's signs are recited!

And how many signs of God are recited

وزمزم غوث للذبيح وأمه

وزمزم غوث للذبيح وأمه

وقد عطشا والغوث قد عمم الأملا

وقد عطشا والغوث قد عمم الأملا

And Zamzam, succor for the one offered for sacrifice and his mother,

And Zamzam a salvation for the slaughtered and his mother

And both had grown thirsty; the succor spread hope to all.

Thirsty, and salvation has encompassed hopes

وقصتها مع شيبة الحمد والندى

وقصتها مع شيبة الحمد والندى

وآلا قريش فاروها إن تكن أهلا

وآلا قريش فاروها إن تكن أهلا

And its story with Shaybat al-Hamd, the generous,

And her story with Shaybah, praise and blessings,

And the clans of Quraysh—recount it, if you are worthy.

And the family of Quraish, so ask them if you are worthy

وفي عرفات والمشاعر كلها

وفي عرفات والمشاعر كلها

وخيف مني والهدى والرمى للأفلا

وخيف مني والهدى والرمى للأفلا

And in Arafat and all the sacred sites,

And in Arafat and all the holy places

And the Khayf of Mina, the sacrificial offerings, and stoning at [an unclear target],

And my love, the guidance, and throwing for the fallen

مولرث إبراهيم للصدق والوفا

مولرث إبراهيم للصدق والوفا

إلى المصطفى المختار في الإرث والإدلا

إلى المصطفى المختار في الإرث والإدلا

Abraham's heritage of truthfulness and fidelity,

Inheritor of Abraham in truth and loyalty

To the Chosen One, the Elect, through inheritance and kinship.

To the Chosen One in inheritance and friendship

بلاد رسول اللَه مولده بها

بلاد رسول اللَه مولده بها

ومبعثه والوحى في حين ما أخلا

ومبعثه والوحى في حين ما أخلا

The lands of God's Messenger, where his birth took place,

The land of the Messenger of God, his birthplace

And his commissioning and revelation, when he withdrew in solitude.

And his mission, and the revelation when none had shared

بغار حرا جاء الأمين من السما

بغار حرا جاء الأمين من السما

فقال له أقرأن من لدن ربه الأعلى

فقال له أقرأن من لدن ربه الأعلى

In the cave of Hira, the Trustworthy One came from heaven,

In the Cave of Hira, the Trustworthy came from the sky

And said to him, 'Recite!'—from his Lord, the Most High.

And He said to him "Read" from your Lord, the Most High

وطيبة لا تنسى فهجرته بها

وطيبة لا تنسى فهجرته بها

ومسجد والقبر والحجرة المثلى

ومسجد والقبر والحجرة المثلى

And do not forget Tayba: his migration was there,

And Taybah, do not forget his emigration there

And the mosque, the tomb, and the most excellent chamber.

And the mosque, and the tomb, and the most exemplary chamber

ضريح حوى خير الأنام محمداً

ضريح حوى خير الأنام محمداً

نبي الهدى الهادي لمن زاغ أوضلا

نبي الهدى الهادي لمن زاغ أوضلا

A tomb containing the best of creation, Muhammad,

The tomb containing the best of mankind, Muhammad

The prophet of guidance, guiding whoever swerved or strayed.

The guiding Prophet for those astray and misled

به ختم اللضه النبوة وابتدا

به ختم اللضه النبوة وابتدا

وقدمه في الذكر فاستجمع الفضلا

وقدمه في الذكر فاستجمع الفضلا

Through him God sealed prophethood and began it,

With him God sealed prophecy and began

And gave him precedence in mention, so he gathered all excellence.

And gave him precedence in remembrance, embracing all virtue

شفيع الورى في يوم بعث ومحشر

شفيع الورى في يوم بعث ومحشر

إلى ربهم والخوف قد شمل الرسلا

إلى ربهم والخوف قد شمل الرسلا

The intercessor for creation on the day of resurrection and gathering,

Intercessor of humankind on the day of resurrection

Before their Lord, when fear has encompassed the messengers.

To their Lord, and fear has gripped the messengers

وتحت لواء الحمد يمسون في غد

وتحت لواء الحمد يمسون في غد

وقد أجرزوا أمناً وقد أحرزوا ظلا

وقد أجرزوا أمناً وقد أحرزوا ظلا

And beneath the Banner of Praise they shall be on the morrow,

And beneath the banner of praise they will find safety tomorrow

Having secured safety and having secured shade.

Having attained security and taken shelter

شفيع الورى لا تنسى من شفاعة

شفيع الورى لا تنسى من شفاعة

فإني من القربى وممن بها أدلى

فإني من القربى وممن بها أدلى

O intercessor for creation, do not forget [me] in intercession,

Intercessor of humankind, do not forget to intercede

For I am of your kin, and among those who invoke that bond.

For I am one of kin, confessing through you

وإني مسيء ومذنب ومخلط

وإني مسيء ومذنب ومخلط

وأنت شفيع المذنبين إلى المولى

وأنت شفيع المذنبين إلى المولى

And I am a wrongdoer, a sinner, one who mixes good with bad,

I am a sinner and offender and confused

And you are the sinners' intercessor before the Lord.

While you intercede for sinners to the Master

عليك صلاة اللَه ثم سلامه

عليك صلاة اللَه ثم سلامه

صلاة وتسليماً مدى الدهر لا تبلى

صلاة وتسليماً مدى الدهر لا تبلى

Upon you be God's blessing, then His peace,

Upon you be the prayers of God and His peace

Blessing and salutations throughout all time, never wearing away,

Prayers and greetings forever unending

وآل وأصحاب ومن كان تابعاً

وآل وأصحاب ومن كان تابعاً

على البر والتقوى يدل كما دلا

على البر والتقوى يدل كما دلا

And upon his family, his companions, and whoever was a follower,

And family, companions, and those who followed

Guiding to righteousness and piety, as he guided.

In righteousness and piety, guiding as you have guided
