طالتhave grown long لياليكyour nights والأيامand the days ياO صاحيmy friend
طالت لياليك والأيام يا صاحي
فاغنمso make the most of بقيةwhat remains of إمساءevening وإصباحand morning
فاغنم بقية إمساء وإصباح
Long have your nights and days stretched on, my friend.
Your nights and days have grown long, O my friend.
So make the most of what remains, evening and morning;
So make the most of the evenings and mornings that remain.
واصرفand spend بقيةthe remainder of عمرa lifetime لإبقاءto preserve لهfor it
واصرف بقية عمر لإبقاء له
فيin طاعاتacts of obedience to اللَهGod واعصand disobey اللائمthe blamer اللاحيthe reproacher
في طاعات اللَه واعص اللائم اللاحي
devote the rest of your life to what will make it endure,
And spend the remainder of your life so that it may endure,
through obedience to God; ignore the blamer, the reproaching censor.
In acts of obedience to God, and defy the fault-finding reproacher.
واقبلand turn علىtoward اللَهGod ربLord of العرشthe Throne خالقناour Creator
واقبل على اللَه رب العرش خالقنا
مدبرthe director of الأمرaffairs عنout of طولbounty وإصلاحand rectification
مدبر الأمر عن طول وإصلاح
Turn to God, Lord of the Throne, our Creator,
And turn toward God, Lord of the Throne, our Creator,
Governor of all affairs in sovereign power, setting all aright.
Who directs affairs with bounty and sets them right.
وقدمand send ahead الخيرgood واعملand work للمعادfor the hereafter وللand for the
وقدم الخير واعمل للمعاد ولل
خلدeternal life المؤبدthe everlasting فيin روحrepose وأفراحand joys
خلد المؤبد في روح وأفراح
Send good ahead, and labor for the Resurrection—and for
And send good deeds ahead, and work for the hereafter and for
everlasting life, made eternal, amid repose and joys;
Everlasting life in repose and joys,
وجنةand a garden ملئتwas filled بالطيباتwith good things منincluding الthe
وجنة ملئت بالطيبات من ال
قصورpalaces والروحand repose والألبانand milk والراحand wine
قصور والروح والألبان والراح
and a Garden filled with delights, among them
And a garden filled with good things, including the
palaces, repose, milk, and wine;
Palaces, repose, milk, and wine,
والفوزand triumph والقربand nearness والرضوانand good pleasure منfrom ملكa king
والفوز والقرب والرضوان من ملك
مهينhumbling واحدOne للخيرfor good فتاحan opener
مهين واحد للخير فتاح
triumph, nearness, and favor from a King
And triumph, nearness, and favor from a King
who humbles—the One, the great Opener of every good;
Who humbles, is One, and opens the way to good.
معalong with النجاةdeliverance منfrom النارthe Fire التيthat برزتwas made manifest
مع النجاة من النار التي برزت
للظالمينfor the wrongdoers معwith خزيdisgrace وإفضاحand public shame
للظالمين مع خزي وإفضاح
together with deliverance from the Fire that has loomed forth
Along with deliverance from the Fire made manifest
for the wrongdoers, with disgrace and public exposure.
For the wrongdoers, with disgrace and public shame.
فيهاin it العقاربthe scorpions والحياتand the snakes تنهشهمbite them
فيها العقارب والحيات تنهشهم
عمpervaded العذابthe torment لأجسادto bodies وأرواحand souls
عم العذاب لأجساد وأرواح
Within it, scorpions and serpents tear at them;
In it, scorpions and snakes bite them;
punishment engulfs bodies and souls.
Torment has spread through bodies and souls.
أحاطتsurrounded النارthe Fire منfrom كلall الجهاتthe directions بهمaround them
أحاطت النار من كل الجهات بهم
سحقاًperdition لهمto them أسرىcaptives همworry وأتراحand sorrows
سحقاً لهم أسرى هم وأتراح
The Fire has surrounded them on every side.
The Fire has surrounded them on every side.
Perdition upon them—captives they are, beset by grief.
Perdition to them—captives of worry and sorrows!
لماwhen عصواthey disobeyed ربهمtheir Lord ذاpossessor of البطشfierce punishment أسكنهمHe made them dwell
لما عصوا ربهم ذا البطش أسكنهم
دارthe abode of البوارruin ومأوىand the dwelling of كلevery مجتاحone swept away
دار البوار ومأوى كل مجتاح
Because they defied their Lord, Possessor of terrible might, He lodged them
When they disobeyed their Lord, mighty in punishment, He lodged them
in the abode of ruin, the dwelling of every ravager
In the abode of ruin and the dwelling of every ruined one
لمdid not يتبعfollow لرسولto the Messenger of اللَهGod صفوتهHis chosen one
لم يتبع لرسول اللَه صفوته
محمدMuhammad المصطفىthe Chosen One العاقبthe Last الماحيthe Effacer

who did not follow God’s Messenger, His chosen one:

Muhammad the Chosen, the Last, the Effacer.
Muhammad, the Chosen One, the Last, the Effacer.
عليهupon him أزكىpurest صلاةblessing اللَهGod ماas long as هطلتpoured down
عليه أزكى صلاة اللَه ما هطلت
سحابةa cloud أوor صباswayed غصنa branch بأرياحin winds
سحابة أو صبا غصن بأرياح
Upon him be God’s purest blessing whenever
May God's purest blessing be upon him, as long as rain falls
a cloud pours rain, or winds make a bough sway.
From a cloud, or a branch sways in the winds.
