دع الناس يا قلبي يقولون ما بدا

لهم واتثق بالله رب الخلائق

Let people, O my heart, say whatever comes

to their minds; put your trust in God, Lord of all creatures.

ولا ترتجي في النفع والضر غيره

تبارك من رب كريم وخالق

And look to none but Him for benefit or harm.

Blessed is He—a generous Lord and Creator.

فليس لمخلوق من الأمر ها هنا

ولا ثم شيء فاعتمد قول صادق

For no creature has any power over affairs here,

or there at all; so trust a truthful speaker's words.

هو الرب لا رب سواه وكلهم

عبيد وتحت الحكم من غير فارق

He is the Lord; there is no lord but Him, and all of them

are servants and subject to His rule, without distinction.

نعم بعضهم ممن يجب ويرتضي

لطاعته والبعض عاص ومارق

Yes, some of them are among those He loves and approves of

for obeying Him, while others are disobedient and rebellious.

بتوفيقه صار المطيع يطيعه

وخالف بالعصيان كل مفارق

Through His enabling grace, the obedient came to obey Him,

and everyone who broke away defied Him through disobedience.

فسل ربك التوفيق والعفو والرضا

وكوناً مع أهل الهدى والحقائق

So ask your Lord for enabling grace, pardon, and His good pleasure,

and to be with the people of guidance and spiritual truths.

رجال إلى الرحمن ساروا بهمة

على الصدق والإخلاص من غير عائق

Men who journeyed toward the All-Merciful with resolve,

in truthfulness and sincerity, without hindrance.

فنالوا الذي كل المطالب دونه

فلِلَه من عيش كريمٍ ورائق

So they attained what surpasses every other aspiration.

Praise be to God—what a noble and delightful life!

دنو وتقريب وأنس بحضرة

مقدسة في منتهى كل سائق

Nearness, being drawn close, and intimacy in a presence

sacred, at the ultimate destination of every guide.

فآهٍ على عيش الأحبة كم أسا

عليه وكم دمع على الخد دافق

Ah, for the life of the beloved—how much sorrow

for it, and how many tears stream down the cheek!
