1. نسيم حاجر يا نسيم حاجر

    هل من خبر تشفي به الخواطر

    Breeze of Hajir, O breeze of Hajir,

    Is there news with which you can soothe the thoughts,

  2. عن جيرة الحي الذي تجاور

    فالشوق قد أربى على السرائر

    About the neighbors of the encampment you dwell beside?

    For longing has overflowed the heart's secret depths.

  3. وافيت ربعي يا نسيم الأسحار

    من بعد ما نامت عيون الأغيار

    You have come to my abode, O breeze of the predawn hours,

    After the eyes of strangers had gone to sleep.

  4. عسى معك لي يا نسيم أخبار

    عن الحبيب النازح المهاجر

    Perhaps you have news for me, O breeze,

    Of the beloved who has gone far away, who has left.

  5. حب الأحبة في الفؤاد خيم

    لا بل جرى مني مجرى الدم

    Love of the beloved ones has pitched its tent in the heart.

    No—rather, it flows through me as blood flows.

  6. وكلما برق الحمى تبسم

    فاضت دموع العين في المحاجر

    And whenever the sanctuary's lightning smiles,

    Tears from the eye overflow in the sockets.

  7. مضى زماني في الجفا

    ومدمعي قد خانني وصبري

    My time has passed in estrangement,

    And my tears have betrayed me, and my patience too.

  8. وضاق بالفرقة فسيح صدري

    ما حيلتي كم شاء كون صابر

    And separation has cramped my spacious breast.

    What recourse have I? How much one has wished to be patient!

  9. عسى عسى يا ساكنين نعمان

    أن ينثني وقت الصفا الذي كان

    May it be, may it be, O dwellers of Nu'man,

    That the former time of serenity returns,

  10. وينكشف حال الأسى والأَشجان

    بوصل ليلى بهجة المسامر

    And the state of sorrow and grief is lifted,

    Through union with Layla, the night companion's delight.

  11. أنا الذي في حبها متيم

    محزون مشجون الفؤاد مغرم

    I am the one enthralled by love for her,

    Sorrowful, grief-stricken at heart, consumed by love.

  12. فهل تراها يا نديم تعلم

    بما بقلبي من هوى مخامر

    So do you think, O companion, that she knows

    Of the love that permeates my heart?

  13. يا ساكنين السفح من فؤادي

    وادي الندى يا خير كل وادي

    O you who dwell on the slope of my heart,

    Valley of dew, O best of all valleys,

  14. حيث المنادي يسمع المنادي

    يا أهل البصائر حدقوا البصائر

    Where the caller hears the caller.

    O people of insight, focus your inner sight.

  15. هذا جمال الحق قد تجلى

    ولم يكن محجوباً قبل كل

    This is the beauty of the Real, now manifest,

    And it was not veiled before all things.

  16. لكن قلب العبد قد تخلى

    شاهد وكانت منه السواتر

    But the servant's heart has emptied itself;

    It beheld, and the veils had come from it.

  17. طور التجلي قلب كل عارف

    ومهبط الأسرار واللطائف

    Every knower's heart is the Mount of manifestation,

    And the descent-place of mysteries and subtle graces.

  18. والنفس موسى تشهد المعارف

    مهما تجلت وأثبت الظواهر

    And the self is Moses, beholding spiritual insights,

    Whenever they manifest, and it affirms outward forms.

  19. والنفس مغناطيس أمر الإلهام

    والروح مغناطيس كون الأجسام

    And the self is a magnet for inspiration's command,

    And the spirit is a magnet for the existence of bodies.

  20. وذاك من بعد التوجه التام

    بكل باطن وبكل ظاهر

    And that comes after complete turning,

    With every inward and every outward aspect.

  21. اللَه أكبر هذه الحقيقة

    قد أَشرقت من مشرق الطريقة

    Allah is greatest! This reality

    Has shone forth from the dawning-place of the Path.

  22. فامسك أخي بالعروة الوثيقة

    وهي اتباعك سيد العشائر

    So hold fast, my brother, to the firm handhold,

    And it is your following the master of the clans:

  23. محمد المبعوث بالهداية

    والحق والتحقيق والولاية

    Muhammad, sent with guidance,

    And truth, spiritual realization, and sainthood,

  24. إنسان عين الكشف والعناية

    وروح معنى جملة المظاهر

    The pupil of the eye of unveiling and divine care,

    And the spirit of the meaning of all manifestations.
