So the breeze betrayed her gait and divulged it.

Without faltering beneath a broad and weighty rump.

Her tresses settle upon it as a girdle.

It lent its slenderness to her ways, so delicate she nearly

Glides as a breeze, morning and evening.

    ما لاحَ مِنْ رُشْدٍ لَهُ إذْ لاحا

    Woe to the reprover who rose to blame me for love;

No glimmer of good sense was his when he reproached.

Have you seen what is forbidden reckoned lawful?

One who has caroused with eyes and goblets?

In peace, wielding her breasts as spears.

Her flank is accustomed to swaying, so you would think it

A bough, though it has never known great trees.

No seeker of a dynasty's favor can exhaust its rewards—

A Hafsid dynasty that counts generosity as gain.

From his might sword-blades like slabs of rock.

And the fetter of his bounty decreed for the supplicant

That he never be released from his shelter.

So error fell upon its nose and collapsed.

    Victory whenever he seeks victory.

And raced like winds to uproot the foes.

Without becoming by evening a mourning assembly and lamentation.

Like the sun, whose rays adorn daybreak.
