دارت السرّاء فيهِ قَهْوة

دارت السرّاء فيهِ قَهْوة

فَتَسَوّغْتُ الأجَلَ الأعْذَبا

فَتَسَوّغْتُ الأجَلَ الأعْذَبا

Joy circulated there as wine.

The cups of destiny passed around,

So I swallowed the sweetest death.

So I savored the sweetness of my fate,

قَبْل أنْ أغْشَاهُ هَاجَرْتُ له

قَبْل أنْ أغْشَاهُ هَاجَرْتُ له

نِيّةٌ أخْلَصْتُها مُحْتَسِبا

نِيّةٌ أخْلَصْتُها مُحْتَسِبا

Before I visited him, I emigrated for his sake,

Before the clouds could veil it, I migrated for its sake,

With an intention I made sincere, seeking divine reward.

With sincere intentions and piety.

فَلَئِنْ وَافَيْت عَبْداً كَلِفاً

فَلَئِنْ وَافَيْت عَبْداً كَلِفاً

فلَقد لاقَيْتُ مَوْلىً حَدِبا

فلَقد لاقَيْتُ مَوْلىً حَدِبا

So if indeed I arrived as a devoted servant,

So if I met a weary servant,

Then I surely met a caring master.

I surely met a Lord Most Kind.
