أسَوْسَنَةٌ أمْ عَيْبَة لِسِلاحِ

أسَوْسَنَةٌ أمْ عَيْبَة لِسِلاحِ

بَدَا كبُنُودٍ وَسْطَها ورِمَاحِ

بَدَا كبُنُودٍ وَسْطَها ورِمَاحِ

Is it an iris, or a case for arms

That appear within it like banners and spears?

خَلا أنّها في الرّوْضِ من صَنعةِ الحَيا

خَلا أنّها في الرّوْضِ من صَنعةِ الحَيا

لِلَهْوِ مَراحٍ لا لحَرِّ كِفاحِ

لِلَهْوِ مَراحٍ لا لحَرِّ كِفاحِ

Except that, in the garden, it is the handiwork of rain,

For merry play, not for the heat of combat.
