تكبّراً ويبذخُ
If he would mend his ways—he who holds his head high
If one who struts with pride could know
in arrogance and vaunts himself—
That his nature comes from a drop emitted
أيقنَhe knew for certain أنّthat سنخهُhis substance
أيقنَ أنّ سنخهُ
منfrom حمإٍblack, fetid mud سيسنخُwill rot
من حمإٍ سيسنخُ
he would know that his substance,
And that the parts protected by his clothes
formed of black mud, will rot,
Will become worn out and decayed
وأنّand that ماwhat حماهhe guarded it منof

أطرافهِ يدوّخُ
and that what he has guarded of
He would cry out upon realizing
his extremities will be subdued.
Did a son or brother revolve around him?

He cried out, now sobered—so did
Does he not know that the one who is most
a son or brother come round him?
Protective of ruin does not scream out?
أماdid … not? درىhe knew أنthat الذيthe one who

Did he not know that he who
makes for death receives no aid?
