حُرِمْتُI was denied الرّشادَright guidance لأنيbecause I سَفَاهاًfoolishly
حُرِمْتُ الرّشادَ لأني سَفَاهاً
خَدَمْتُI served المُلوكthe kings وهُمthough they أعْبُدُslaves
خَدَمْتُ المُلوك وهُم أعْبُدُ
I was denied right guidance because, in my folly,
I was denied guidance for I was foolish,
I served kings, though they are slaves.
I served kings though they were idols,
وفيand in رَغَباتيmy longings لَهُمْfor them جِئْتُI committed إدّاًa monstrous wrong
وفي رَغَباتي لَهُمْ جِئْتُ إدّاً
فَهَلاwhy, then, not رَغِبْتُI longed لِمَنْfor the One whom أعْبُدُI worship
فَهَلا رَغِبْتُ لِمَنْ أعْبُدُ
And in my longings for them, I committed a monstrous wrong;
In my greed for them, I was obedient,
why, then, did I not long for the One I worship?
Why did I not obey whom I should worship?
