Roses were strewn upon the pool, and already
The roses bloomed in the stream as they shed
the winds’ wafting breath had ruffled it as they blew,
Their petals, blown by the winds’ gentle tread
مثلlike درعِthe coat of mail الكميِّof the armored warrior مزَّقهاtore it apart الطعنُspear-thrusts

فسالتْ بهِ دماءُ الجراح
like a warrior’s coat of mail torn by spear-thrusts,
Like a coat of mail rent by thrusts of the spear
so that blood from wounds flowed over him.
Their blood flowed out from the wounds they bore.
