فَلَقُ الصباحِ لسدفةِ الإظلامِ
How splendid was our night, in which
O God, our night which pleaded

For the dawn to rend the veil of darkness

من فتيةٍ بيضِ الوجوهِ كرامِ

Of youths with bright, noble faces

If challenged they flee to the hills
or, if addressed, they turn to pens.
If addressed they flee to their pens

So you see eloquence, if you look at them,
Eloquence you see if you look upon them
and valor, between a reed pen and a keen sword.
Valor amidst alertness and swords
