غريرٌ يباري الصبحَ إشراقُ خدِّه

غريرٌ يباري الصبحَ إشراقُ خدِّه

وفي مفرقِ الظلماءِ منه نصيبُ

وفي مفرقِ الظلماءِ منه نصيبُ

A guileless youth—the radiance of his cheek vies with dawn;

A guileless youth, whose cheek’s radiance rivals dawn;

and when darkness is sundered, some of the light comes from him.

And in the darkness’s hair-parting lies a share of him.

ترفُّ بفيهِ ضاحكاً أقحوانةٌ

ترفُّ بفيهِ ضاحكاً أقحوانةٌ

ويهتزُّ في بُرْدَيْهِ منه قضيبُ

ويهتزُّ في بُرْدَيْهِ منه قضيبُ

As he smiles, a chrysanthemum flutters in his mouth;

A daisy gleams in his mouth as he smiles;

and within his two robes, his lithe bough of a body sways.

And within his two cloaks he sways, a slender bough.
