وبِالدَّهرِand in Time مِماbecause of what خافَit feared بَطشَكyour onslaught أولَقُmadness
The band of foes trembles at the edge of your resolve;
The band of enemies is split by your firm resolve,
and Time is maddened by fear of your onslaught.
And from your might those who feared are in tatters and rags.
تَيَممتهُyou made for it وَالسَّعدُand good fortune حَولَكaround you جَحفلٌa mighty host
وقارعتَهand you battled it والنَّصرُand victory دونَكbefore you خَندَقُa trench
You made for it, with good fortune a mighty host around you,
You confronted him while good fortune circles you,
and battled it, with victory a trench before you.
And you bested him while victory lies beneath you in ambush.
أَدَرتَyou set turning رَحىthe millstone of الحَربِwar الزّبُونِfierce بِساحَةٍon a field
وغالبتَهand you strove against it وَالجَوُّand the air بالبَيضwith bright swords يَعبَقُis fragrant
You set the millstone of fierce war turning on a field,
You set in motion the millstones of war in an open field,
and strove against it, the air fragrant with bright swords.
And you vanquished him while fate with whiteness was perfumed.
فَلَماthen when حَوتheld كَفاكyour two hands رمَّةthe entirety of أَمرِهِits affairs

Then, when your two hands held its affairs in full,
When your hand encompassed the pinnacle of his affair,
and its throat was gripped tight by the hand of siege,
And the suffocated were bound by your clenching fist,
وأَسقَيتَهand you gave it drink مِنfrom جَمَّةthe brimming pool of الأَمنsafety صافِياًclear
إِذاwhen ذاقَهtastes it منwhoever ذاقهtastes it يَتَمَطَّقُsmacks his lips
and you gave it a clear draught from safety’s brimming pool—
You gave him to drink from the clear wine of security,
whenever anyone tastes it, he smacks his lips.
When he tastes it, from having tasted it, he is freed from choking.
وَكَمand how many لَكَare yours مِثليlike me مُستَرقّenslaved by مكارمٍnoble deeds
بِعَفوِكَby your pardon مِنfrom رِقِّthe bondage of المنيّةdeath يُعتَقُis freed
And how many like me, bound to you by noble deeds,
How many the likes of me, stealing your noble traits,
are freed by your pardon from death’s bondage!
Freed by your pardon from the shackles of annihilation.
كَشفتُI drew back سَماءَthe sky of المَجدِglory عنكَfrom you فَلَمand did not أَجِدI find
سوىexcept كَرمٍgenerosity عَنof طيبِthe goodness of خيمكَyour nature يَنطِقُspeaks
I drew back the sky of glory from you and found nothing
I unveiled the sky of glory around you but did not find
but generosity speaking of your good nature.
Other than generosity from the goodness of your abode does speak.
وَرَدتُI came to رِياضَthe gardens of العَفوِpardon منكَfrom you فَجادَنيso it drenched me
بأَرجائِهاwithin their bounds مِنfrom مُزنِthe rainclouds of نُعماكَyour bounty مُغدِقُa copious rain-giver
I came to your gardens of pardon, and was drenched
I returned to the meadows of your pardon so it gave freely,
within their bounds by a downpour from your bounty’s rainclouds.
With its edges, from your overflowing boons, pouring.
فإِنso if أَناI أَشكركَthank you أبيضَnoble مُعرِقاًof ancient lineage
فَلاthen may no هَزَّنيrouse me لِلمَجدِto glory أَبيضa noble man مُعرِقُof ancient lineage
So if I thank you, noble and of ancient lineage,
If I thank you, my temples turning white,
then may no noble man of ancient lineage rouse me to glory.
No whiteness of temples, for glory, me did shake.
