أقبل فديت أبا العلاءِ نَصيحَتي

بقبولِها وبواجِبِ الشكرِ

بقبولِها وبواجِبِ الشكرِ

Accept my advice, Abu al-ʿAlāʾ—may you be ransomed—

I offer my advice, oh Abu Al Alaa', so kindly accept

With acceptance and due gratitude.

And thank me, as politeness demands.

لا تَهجُونَّ انس منك فَرُبَّما

لا تَهجُونَّ انس منك فَرُبَّما

تَهجُو أباكَ وأنتَ لا تَدري

تَهجُو أباكَ وأنتَ لا تَدري

Do not ever satirize your own people, for you may

Do not mock others, for one day

Be satirizing your father without knowing it.

You may mock your own father, unaware.
