بلغت بأحمدَ أنفسٌ آمالها

بلغت بأحمدَ أنفسٌ آمالها

حمدت مبادئها به ومآلها

حمدت مبادئها به ومآلها

Through Ahmad, souls attained their hopes.

Ahmad's hopes have reached their peak,

Through him, they praised their beginnings and their end.

Praising their principles that led to this peak.

تاقت له فتزودت أوجالها

تاقت له فتزودت أوجالها

واستصغرت في حبّه آجالها

واستصغرت في حبّه آجالها

They yearned for him and took their fears as provisions.

They yearned for him, so they geared up,

And in loving him, they deemed their lifespans small.

And for his love, shortened their time.

لبست لما قد شفّها أسمالها

لبست لما قد شفّها أسمالها

ولباسها أسمالها أسمى لها

ولباسها أسمالها أسمى لها

They donned their rags because of what had worn them thin.

They wore their finest clothes for him,

And wearing their rags is loftier for them.

And their finest clothes became their finest for him.

تهوى الرياح جنوبها وشمالها

تهوى الرياح جنوبها وشمالها

ولذا تميل يمينها وشمالها

ولذا تميل يمينها وشمالها

They love the winds, their southerlies and northerlies.

The winds blow south and north for him,

And so they sway to their right and their left.

Thus they lean right and left for him.

إن ضرّمَت نار البعاد خبالَها

إن ضرّمَت نار البعاد خبالَها

أسفاً فكم منح بذاك خبالها

أسفاً فكم منح بذاك خبالها

If the fire of separation kindles their madness,

If the fires of separation kindled their sorrows,

In sorrow—yet how many gifts their madness brings thereby!

Alas, he compensated for that with his sorrows.

أو كان غيرَ سيرُها أشكالها

أو كان غيرَ سيرُها أشكالها

جهداً فإن نحولها أشكى لها

جهداً فإن نحولها أشكى لها

Or if their journey has changed their forms

Or if their ways differed in forms,

Through toil, their wasting is more grievous to them.

With hardship, their leanness was worse for them.

الشوق قطّع بالنوى أوصالها

الشوق قطّع بالنوى أوصالها

فكأنه بعذابها أوصى لها

فكأنه بعذابها أوصى لها

Longing has torn their limbs apart through separation.

Yearning cut their bones into pieces,

So it is as though it had bequeathed them their torment.

As if prescribing agony for them with his torment.

وكذا المعالى إن فتا أهوى لها

وكذا المعالى إن فتا أهوى لها

يلقى المكارم راضياً أهوالها

يلقى المكارم راضياً أهوالها

And likewise with lofty honors: if a youth aspires to them,

And so the high ambitions, if they missed their love for him,

He meets noble deeds, content to face their terrors.

Would willingly meet disasters for him.

نور التشوق للديار جلا لها

نور التشوق للديار جلا لها

عن حجبها فرأت بذاك جلالها

عن حجبها فرأت بذاك جلالها

The light of longing for the abodes drew aside for them

The light of yearning for the homes shone for them,

Their veils, and thereby they beheld their majesty.

Unveiling their grandeur thus for them.

تلك المعالم إن خطبت جمالها

تلك المعالم إن خطبت جمالها

فاخدم بأجواز القفار جمالها

فاخدم بأجواز القفار جمالها

Those landmarks—if you woo their beauty,

Those landmarks, if they sought their beauty,

Then tend their camels in the depths of the wastelands.

Then serve, permitting the barrenness, their beauty.

قد أطلعت بسما القلوب هلالها

قد أطلعت بسما القلوب هلالها

ولذاك تعملُ نحوها إهلالها

ولذاك تعملُ نحوها إهلالها

They have made their crescent rise in the sky of hearts.

The crescents of hearts rose for them,

And so you raise their cry of devotion toward them.

And so they reverently act toward them.

يا فارس الدعوى أدّرك أبطالها

يا فارس الدعوى أدّرك أبطالها

لا تعلُ فيها والتزم إبطالها

لا تعلُ فيها والتزم إبطالها

O knight of pretension, catch up with its champions.

O knight of claims, catch up to their heroes,

Do not exalt yourself in it, and commit to nullifying it.

Do not ascend among them, and commit to defeating them.
