The noblest glory and unalloyed eminence
The most honorable glory and pure perfection
belong to the chosen Prophet, Muhammad.
Belong to the chosen Prophet Muhammad
ولهand he has فيin الفخرhonor أعلىthe highest منصبstation
وله في الفخر أعلى منصب
اقتناهhe attained it فيin كريمnoble المحتدlineage
اقتناه في كريم المحتد
And his is the highest station of honor,
He has the highest rank of pride
attained through his noble lineage.
That he earned through his generosity
صفdescribe وعددand enumerate ماwhatever تشاءyou wish منof عُلاlofty virtues
صف وعدد ما تشاء من عُلا
سيدa master فيamong المعلواتexalted attainments أوحدpeerless
سيد في المعلوات أوحد
Describe and enumerate whatever lofty virtues you wish
Describe and count as much nobility as you wish
of a master peerless in exalted attainments.
The master of virtues, unmatched
بعلاthrough the lofty virtues of عليexalted قدرthe stature of مجدهhis glory
بعلا علي قدر مجده
كلevery ذىpossessor of علاdistinction عليlofty يقتدىfollows an example
كل ذى علا علي يقتدى
In the lofty virtues of one whose glory is exalted,
With glory fitting his stature
all who possess lofty distinction find their example.
All the eminent model after him
وبأنوارand through the lights of بدورfull moons هديهhis guidance
وبأنوار بدور هديه
فيin غياهبthe deep darkness of الضلالerror يهتدىone finds guidance
في غياهب الضلال يهتدى
And through the lights of the full moons of his guidance,
With the shining lights of his guiding sun
one finds guidance amid the deep darkness of error.
One finds their way out of the darkness of misguidance
وكفهُand his hand كالمزنlike rain clouds فيin تهتانهits downpour
وكفهُ كالمزن في تهتانه
قدindeed هماpoured down سحاin torrents لكلfor every مجتدىseeker of bounty
قد هما سحا لكل مجتدى
And his hand, like a rain cloud in its downpour,
His palm is generous in its bounty
has poured torrents for every seeker of bounty.
It has spread goodness for every seeker
ياO رسولMessenger of اللَهGod قدindeed اسدتbestowed لناupon us
يا رسول اللَه قد اسدت لنا
منحُgifts of الألطافkindness بيضاءwhite اليدthe hand
منحُ الألطاف بيضاء اليد
O Messenger of God, you have bestowed upon us
O Messenger of God, you have granted us
gifts of kindness from your white, generous hand.
Gifts of kindness with open hands
سامعىmy listeners فخسرunclear; perhaps 'glory' النبيthe Prophet احصرواenumerate
سامعى فخسر النبي احصروا

My listeners, take stock of the Prophet's [glory?]:
Listeners, describe the Prophet comprehensively
these are descriptions of Ahmad's glory.
These are the attributes of Ahmed's glory
منشدىmy chanter بوصفwith a description of أوصافqualities صفتthat have become pure
منشدى بوصف أوصاف صفت
أحببنيlove me بذكرهاby recalling them ياO منشديmy chanter
أحببني بذكرها يا منشدي
O my chanter, describing qualities that are pure,
My reciter, describe for me the attributes
love me by recalling them, O my chanter.
That made me love the mention of him
غننىsing to me بهاof them ثناءthe praise of أحمدAhmad
غننى بها ثناء أحمد
قدindeed ثنانىhas turned me away عنfrom مغانىthe songs of معبدMa'bad
قد ثنانى عن مغانى معبد
Sing to me of them; the praise of Ahmad
Sing his praises to me, praise of Ahmed
has turned me away from the songs of Ma'bad.
His praise has distracted me from other themes
فلقبىso my heart (apparent typo) فيin السماعlistening غلةٌa burning thirst
فلقبى في السماع غلةٌ
حرهاits heat يذكىkindles غليلthe burning thirst of الكبدthe liver
حرها يذكى غليل الكبد
For my [heart] has a burning thirst as I listen,
So my listening has become a profession
whose heat kindles the burning thirst of the liver.
It's livelihood brings life to my heart
كيفhow لاnot نهتزare we moved عندat ذكرthe mention of منone who
كيف لا نهتز عند ذكر من
يرتجىis hoped in للمعضلاتfor dire difficulties فيon غدthe morrow
يرتجى للمعضلات في غد
How could we not be moved at the mention of him
How can we not tremble at the mention
who is looked to for help in tomorrow's dire trials?
Of one who is hoped for difficult times ahead
يومthe day when يجزىare recompensed الناسpeople ماwhat قدindeed عملواthey have done
يوم يجزى الناس ما قد عملوا
يشهدtestifies الفضلexcellence لهfor him فيin المشهدthe gathering
يشهد الفضل له في المشهد
On the day when people are recompensed for what they have done,
The day people are rewarded for their deeds
excellence bears witness for him in the gathering.
His merit will be witnessed at the gathering
وترىand you see لهfor him بذاكthere موقفاa standing place
وترى له بذاك موقفا
خصّhe was singled out فيهin it بالمقامfor the station الأحمدmost praiseworthy
خصّ فيه بالمقام الأحمد
And there you see him in a station
And you will see for him there a station
where he has been singled out for the most praiseworthy rank.
Special to him, the most Praised
إذwhen يرىis seen كلevery نبيprophet خائفاafraid
إذ يرى كل نبي خائفا
يسألasking الرحمنthe All-Merciful أخذاtaking باليدby the hand
يسأل الرحمن أخذا باليد
When every prophet is seen afraid,
Where every prophet is fearful
asking the All-Merciful to take him by the hand,
Asking the Merciful, grasping his hand
ورسولand the Messenger of اللَهGod معwith أمتهhis community
ورسول اللَه مع أمته
دافعاًwarding off عنهمfrom them عظيمimmense الكمدanguish
دافعاً عنهم عظيم الكمد
God's Messenger, meanwhile, is with his community,
While the Messenger of God is with his nation
warding off immense anguish from them.
Defending them with great fortitude
تارةat times عندbeside الصراطthe Sirat bridge واقفاًstanding
تارة عند الصراط واقفاً
ولدىand beside ميزانهمtheir scales بالمرصَدِon watch
ولدى ميزانهم بالمرصَدِ
At times he stands beside the Sirat,
Sometimes standing at the Bridge
and keeps watch beside their scales.
Other times watching their scales carefully
وكذلكand likewise الحوضthe Pool يسقيهمhe gives them drink بهfrom it
وكذلك الحوض يسقيهم به
منfrom كؤوسcups قدindeed صفتhave become pure فيat الموردthe watering place
من كؤوس قد صفت في المورد
And likewise, from the Pool he gives them drink,
And likewise at the Basin, quenching them
from cups made pure at the watering place.
From cups lined up at the watering place
وبنادىand he calls (apparent typo) ياO إلهيmy God أمتىmy community
وبنادى يا إلهي أمتى
ربLord فانجزthen fulfill فيهمconcerning them ليfor me موعدa promise
رب فانجز فيهم لي موعد
And he [calls]: “O my God, my community!
And calling: My Lord, my nation
Lord, fulfill for me the promise concerning them.”
Please fulfill for me what You have promised
أمةcommunity of المختارthe Chosen One ماwhat بالكمis the matter with you
أمة المختار ما بالكم
لاnot تصلونyou invoke blessings علىupon ذاthis السيدmaster
لا تصلون على ذا السيد
O community of the Chosen One, what ails you,
O nation of the Chosen One, why do you
that you do not invoke blessings upon this master?
Not invoke blessings on that Master
أكثرواmultiply عليهupon him منof صلاتكمyour prayers of blessing
أكثروا عليه من صلاتكم
وأديموهاand sustain them دوامfor the duration of الأبدeternity
وأديموها دوام الأبد
Multiply your prayers of blessing upon him,
Increase your prayers for him
and sustain them for all eternity.
And persist in them forever
فصلاةso the blessing of اللَهGod تغشىenvelops أحمداًAhmad
فصلاة اللَه تغشى أحمداً
وتروحand goes at evening نحوهtoward him وتفتدىand offers ransom
وتروح نحوه وتفتدى
So may God's blessing envelop Ahmad,
For God's blessing covers Ahmed
and go toward him at evening, offering ransom.
And goes to him and ransoms him
