The morning breeze wafted gently,
Stirring a languid heart,
And reminding me of bygone days,
Igniting sorrow deep within my ribs.
O breeze from the land of Najd,
When will the longing one find a way?
When will the nights bring him close to them,
To rest awhile in their dwellings?
When in the courtyard of loved ones, one day,
Will he strut proudly near them?
Perhaps you, O dawn breeze,
Could be a messenger to my loved ones.
The shrine is far, and my yearning is long,
No beautiful patience remains in my resolve,
So ignite, O fire of love, my heart,
And pour, O eye, tears of anguish.
For loved ones whose hearts have wandered,
And left behind in my heart an unwanted love.
It watered the home of the beloved with sorrow,
Restoring its abandoned shade.
How much solace did we gain from it!
Dwellings in the heart that are missed,
Time has made them stingy with sorrow.
Yet there, at the abodes of joy,
The new moons continue to rise.
