أردداهI repeat 'ah!' منfrom أسفsorrow وحزنand grief
وماand not تجدىavails لدىamid الحسراتregrets آها'ah!'
I repeat 'ah!' out of sorrow and grief,
I repeat it in sorrow and sadness
Yet 'ah!' avails nothing amid regrets.
And lamentations are of no use to me
وأهملand I shed أدمعاًtears كالقطرlike rain سحاin torrents
علىover نفسa soul نواهاits separation قدindeed براهاwore it away
And I shed tears in torrents, like rain,
I let tears flow like drops of rain
Over a soul that separation has worn away.
Upon a soul that has been healed

فأضناهاso exhausted it وأشجاهاand saddened it نواهاits separation
It has gone far from the home of noble loved ones,
I came from the house of dear noble friends
And separation has exhausted it and filled it with sorrow.
So it was narrowed and its groans hurt it
رمتهاstruck it أسهمarrows الأقدارthe decrees of fate قصداdeliberately
فذادتand so drove away عنfrom لواحظهاits eyes كراهاits slumber
The arrows of fate struck it deliberately,
The arrows of fate threw it intentionally
And drove slumber from its eyes.
So it defended itself from what it disliked

وماand not تبغىit seeks منfrom الدنياthis world سواهاanything besides them
Its wish is to dwell in the lands of Najd,
It wished to settle in the land of Nejd
And it seeks nothing else from this world.
And it wanted nothing of this life but it
وماand not دارa dwelling ينجدin Najd (probable reading) تيمتهاenthralled it

Yet no dwelling in Najd has enthralled it,
It is not the Nejdi homeland that wanted it
But love for him whom its soil has concealed.
But the love of those who bid it farewell

If it kissed the dust of the soil beneath domes,
If I could kiss the dust of the tombs
In Taybah, their home, it would attain its wish.
In its Darah, it would attain its wishes

سناthe radiance of شمسthe sun of الظهيرةnoon منfrom سناهاtheir radiance
Domes of eminence and lofty glory:
Tombs of the exalted and the dignified
The noonday sun's radiance comes from their radiance.
The sun of noon shone from its brilliance

لقدindeed زهيَtook pride الزمانtime بهاin them وتاهاand exulted
By their splendor and the light of their radiance,
It deserved its beauty and the radiance of its brilliance
Time has indeed taken pride in them and exulted.
Time really flourished because of it and was lost

May lofty spears never cease to surround them,
So the most high continued to protect it
And defend their sanctuary from their enemies.
And protect it from its enemies

Fate has indeed barred me from them;
Fate has prevented me from seeing it
When will it be decreed that my eyes behold them?
When will my eyes be destined to see it?

Peace upon them as long as gray doves sing,
No messages or papers of peace have come from it
For my longing for their fertile grounds has reached its utmost.
And my longing for its plains continues
