1. واحسرتا ممّا تكن جوانحي

    ولَّى شباب بالزمان الصالح

    Alas for what my breast conceals!

    Youth has passed, along with the good times.

  2. ساعات تجرٍ قد تصرّم وقتها

    ما كنت في أسواقها بالرابح

    Hours of trade—their time has run out;

    I was no gainer in their markets.

  3. ضيعتها جهلاً وما تضييعها

    من فعل ذي عقل سليم راجح

    I squandered them in ignorance, and squandering them is not

    the act of one with a sound, discerning mind.

  4. واها لقلب نائمٍ متكاسلٍ

    سكران من خمر التغافلِ طافح

    Alas for a slumbering, sluggish heart,

    Drunk to excess on the wine of willful heedlessness;

  5. قلبٍ على طرق الغواية عاكفٍ

    أبداً وعن سبُل المصالح نازح

    A heart devoted to the paths of error,

    Forever, and far removed from the ways of good.

  6. يا رب عطفاً منك يجبُرُهُ ويه

    ديه لنهج طريق رشد واضح

    O Lord, grant kindness from You that mends it and guides

    it along the course of a clear path of right guidance.
