على أن الحشا منه عليلُ
A lowly man—the tears of his eye are proof
My tears are proof that I'm humiliated
That his inmost heart is ailing.
That sorrow has made me frail

لداء البعد فهو له قتول
He has come to your door, seeking healing
I'm in pain at your door seeking healing
For the malady of separation, for it is fatal to him.
For the illness of distance, it's killing me

Does the garden of those near you flourish,
Your dear ones' gardens thrive because of you
While drought destroys the garden of my hopes?
While my hopes' gardens all fade away

And is a decree of prominence written for them,
For them you write triumph with your appearance
While obscurity erases the outline of my design?
And erase my hesitant etching

You give them drink from a flowing spring
While I have no path to their drinking place?
While I have no path to their watering place

And their midday rest in your courtyard has been sweet,
And found rest in your courtyard a moment

وحائى مجدكم ألا تنيلوا
Grant me your favor and nearness,
Grant me your pleasure and nearness
And far be it from your glory not to grant them [probable reading].
And grace me with your glory, do not deny me

خطوب شرحها عندي يطول
Even if the path of union has been cut off from me
If you've cut off the way to connect with me
By calamities whose recounting would take me long,
Sorrows to tell are with me and long

Then it suffices me that I am a servant who keeps severing ties,
It's enough that I'm a severed servant
And it suffices me that you are the master who ever maintains them.
And enough that you are the Lord of reunion

For the sake of your majesty and beauty
Make me taste separation, for through you I prevail.
Do not let me taste despair for through you I hope
