By the pride and symmetry in your two flanks,

Who, O you, guided that toward my ruin?

I adjure you by God for a soul now torn to pieces

Between love's anguish, sorrow, distress, and grief,

And a heart whose Creator has lifted obligation

From it, so severe is the passion it endures.

I sense despair in 'no'; then I am given hope

By a hint in the embrace of lām and alif.

If you quench an ear's thirst with his words,

You will know how pearls dwell in shells.

And if you look at the paper in his hand,

You will see how gardens grow upon the pages.
