وَمِنand from دونِless than ماwhat أَبدَيتَyou showed ليto me يَقتُلُkills الفَتىthe young man
وَمِن دونِ ما أَبدَيتَ لي يَقتُلُ الفَتى
وَيُمسيand reaches evening جَليدُthe stalwart القَومِof the people وَهُوَwhile he is ضَعيفُweak
وَيُمسي جَليدُ القَومِ وَهُوَ ضَعيفُ
And less than what you have shown me can kill a young man.
Without what you have shown me, the youth dies
And the stalwart among men finds himself weak by evening.
And becomes the coward of the people when evening comes
وَلَمand did not أَدرِI know أَنَّthat البانِthe bān tree يُغرَسُis planted فيin النَقاthe sand dune
وَلَم أَدرِ أَنَّ البانِ يُغرَسُ في النَقا
وَلاnor أَنَّthat شَمساًa sun فيin الظَلامِthe darkness تَطوفُwanders
وَلا أَنَّ شَمساً في الظَلامِ تَطوفُ
And I did not know that the bān tree is planted in the sand dune,
And I did not know that the arrow is planted in the quiver
Nor that a sun wanders through the darkness.
Nor that a sun revolves in the darkness
