لَمّاwhen عَلِمتَyou knew بَدَأتَyou began بِالهَجرِwith estrangement
لَمّا عَلِمتَ بَدَأتَ بِالهَجرِ
وَرَمَيتَنيand you struck me مِنfrom حَيثُwhere لاnot أَدريI know
وَرَمَيتَني مِن حَيثُ لا أَدري
When you knew, you began to shun me.
When you knew, you began to shun me
And you struck me from a direction unknown to me.
And pelted me from where I knew not
ماnot كُنتُI was (likely intended: you were) تَدريyou know كَيفَhow تَقتُلُنيyou kill me
ما كُنتُ تَدري كَيفَ تَقتُلُني
فَهَجَرتَنيso you forsook me وَفَطَنتَand you became aware لِلهَجرِof estrangement
فَهَجَرتَني وَفَطَنتَ لِلهَجرِ
You did not know how to kill me.
You did not know how you were killing me
So you forsook me and saw the point of estrangement.
So you shunned me and were keen on schism
