قَد ماتَ تاريخُ عِزِّ السَيفِ وَالقَلَمِ

فَما البُكاءُ بُكاً عِندي بِغَيرِ دَمي

فَما البُكاءُ بُكاً عِندي بِغَيرِ دَمي

The chronicle of the glory of sword and pen has died.

The history of the glory of sword and pen has died,

So, to me, weeping is no weeping without my blood.

So my weeping is not weeping without shedding my blood.

ماتَ الَّذي كانَ وَثّاباً عَلى فُرَصٍ

ماتَ الَّذي كانَ وَثّاباً عَلى فُرَصٍ

وَآخِذاً مِن عُداةِ المُلكِ بِالكَظَمِ

وَآخِذاً مِن عُداةِ المُلكِ بِالكَظَمِ

He has died who would leap at opportunities

He who used to reward opportunities

and seize the kingdom’s enemies by the throat.

And take vengeance on the enemies of the kingdom with forbearance, has died.
