قُلsay لِمِراضِto the languid الحَدَقِthe eyes
وَطُرَرٍand forelocks مِنof حَلَقِringlets
Say to the languid-eyed,
Say to the sicknesses of my eyes
and to forelocks of ringlets:
And the thrushes in my throat—
هَلis there فيin فُؤاديmy heart لِلهَوىfor love
أَوor جَسَديmy body شَيءٌanything بَقيremained
Is there in my heart, for love,
Is there in my heart any love left
or in my body, anything left?
Or in my body anything remaining?
إِنif لَمnot تُرَوُّواyou quench عَطَشيmy thirst
بُخلاًout of stinginess فَبُلّواthen moisten رَمَقيmy remaining life
If you will not quench my thirst,
If you will not quench my thirst out of miserliness
out of stinginess, then moisten my last breath.
Then wet my dried-up existence.
ياO مُقلَةًeye أَجفانُهَits eyelids

O eye, whose eyelids
O eyes whose lids
are torn open by sleeplessness,
Are split open from wakefulness!
بَقيتِyou have remained فيin رِقِّbondage الهَوىlove
شَقيَّةًwretched فيمَنamong those who شَقيwere wretched
you have remained in love's bondage,
You have remained, in passionate love,
wretched among the wretched.
A wretch among the wretched.
