قُمrise ياO نَديميmy drinking companion مِنfrom مَكانِكَyour place وَاِقعُدِand sit down
قُم يا نَديمي مِن مَكانِكَ وَاِقعُدِ
حانَhas come الصَباحُthe morning وَمُقلَتَيand my eye لَمdid not تَرقُدِsleep
حانَ الصَباحُ وَمُقلَتَي لَم تَرقُدِ
Rise, O my drinking companion, from your place and sit down.
My friend, arise from your place and sit down
Morning has come, and my eye has not slept.
The dawn has come, yet my eyes did not rest
أَمّاas for الظَلامُthe darkness فَحينَthen when رَقَّgrew thin قَميصُهُits shirt
أَمّا الظَلامُ فَحينَ رَقَّ قَميصُهُ
وَأَرىand I see بَياضَwhiteness الفَجرِthe dawn كَالسَيفِlike the sword الصَديrusty
وَأَرى بَياضَ الفَجرِ كَالسَيفِ الصَدي
As for the darkness, when its shirt grew thin,
As for the darkness, when it shed its shirt
And I see the whiteness of dawn like a rusty sword.
I see the whiteness of dawn like an unsheathed sword
