لَعَلَّكَ يا مَكتومُ أَن تَعرِفَ الناسا

لَعَلَّكَ يا مَكتومُ أَن تَعرِفَ الناسا

فَتَهلِكَ مِن بَعدي هُموماً وَوَسواسا

فَتَهلِكَ مِن بَعدي هُموماً وَوَسواسا

Perhaps, O Maktum, you will come to know people,

Perhaps, O Maktum, you will get to know the people,

and so perish after me from cares and anxious thoughts.

So you may perish afterwards from worries and obsessions.

وَيَومَ خَلَطتَ الهَجرَ لي مِنكَ بِالرِضى

وَيَومَ خَلَطتَ الهَجرَ لي مِنكَ بِالرِضى

فَأَبكَيتَني دَمعاً وَأَسقَيتَني كاسا

فَأَبكَيتَني دَمعاً وَأَسقَيتَني كاسا

And on the day you mingled your estrangement from me with favor,

And the day you mixed estrangement from me with contentment,

you made me weep tears and gave me a cup to drink.

You made me shed tears and gave me a cup to drink.
