1. يا رُبَّ يَومِ سُرورِ

    بِالمَهدِ زارَ قَصيرِ

    Oh, many a day of joy

    Paid a brief visit at the cradle.

  2. لَو بِعتُهُ بِسِنينٍ

    وَأَعمُرٍ وَدُهورِ

    Had I sold it for years,

    And lifetimes and ages,

  3. وَكُلُّها في نَعيمٍ

    ما كُنتُ بِالمَغدورِ

    All of them in bliss,

    I would not have been cheated.

  4. بَكِّر عَلَيَّ بِكَأسٍ

    فَالعَيشُ بِالتَبكيرِ

    Come early to me with a cup,

    For life's delight lies in an early start.

  5. أَما تَرى النَجمَ وَلّى

    وَهَمَّ بِالتَغويرِ

    Do you not see the star has turned away

    And made ready to set?

  6. اليَومَ قَصفٌ وَبَسطٌ

    فَسَقِّني بِالكَبيرِ

    Today is for revelry and merriment,

    So give me drink from the large cup,

  7. مِن كَفِّ ظَبيٍ مَليحٍ

    ساجي الجُفوني غَريرِ

    From the hand of a lovely gazelle,

    Languid of eyelids, guileless.

  8. يَزهو بِوَردَةِ خَدٍّ

    قَد خُدَّشَت بِعَبيرِ

    He glories in the rose of a cheek

    Already scratched with perfume.

  9. وَشَعرُهُ مِن ظَلامٍ

    وَوَجهُهُ مِن نورِ

    And his hair is of darkness,

    And his face is of light.

  10. يُزَوَّرُ اللَحظَ في العَي

    نِ وَالحَوى في الضَميرِ

    The glance is turned aside in the eye,

    And a dusky hue lies within the heart.
