O you who claim that the virtues were acquired
O you who claim your father possessed all virtues,
By your father—hear words that will silence your prattle.
Listen to words that will dispel your delusions.

Be the son of Saʿid, if you wish, and the son of Talha.
Be the son of Sa'id if you wish, or the son of Talhah,
Through my father's standing, God gave your father water.
By the status of the father, God did not water your father.
