يا مَن بِهِ صَمَمٌ عَنِ الشَكوى

يا مَن بِهِ صَمَمٌ عَنِ الشَكوى

وَتَغافُلٌ عَن صاحِبِ البَلوى

وَتَغافُلٌ عَن صاحِبِ البَلوى

O you who are deaf to complaint,

O you whose name my tongue does not dare utter

And deliberately disregard the afflicted:

Oblivious are you to the plight of this lovelorn sufferer

إِن بُحتَ بِاِسمِكَ فَهوَ يَقتُلُني

إِن بُحتَ بِاِسمِكَ فَهوَ يَقتُلُني

وَهُناكَ تُثكَلُ مِنِّيَ الثَكلى

وَهُناكَ تُثكَلُ مِنِّيَ الثَكلى

If you divulge your name, it will kill me,

If your name escapes my lips, it slays me

And then the bereaved woman will be bereft of me.

And here is burdened with grief over you forever

سافَرتُ بِالآمالِ فيكَ فَلَم

سافَرتُ بِالآمالِ فيكَ فَلَم

تَبلُغ وِصالَكَ وَاِنثَنَت حَسرى

تَبلُغ وِصالَكَ وَاِنثَنَت حَسرى

I journeyed with hopes of you, but they did not

I traveled with hopes of attaining you in vain

Reach union with you, and turned back exhausted.

Yearning for your love though goals not attained

وَيحَ القُلوبِ مِنَ العُيونِ لَقَد

وَيحَ القُلوبِ مِنَ العُيونِ لَقَد

قامَت قِيامَتُهُنَّ في الدُنيا

قامَت قِيامَتُهُنَّ في الدُنيا

Alas for hearts because of eyes! Indeed,

Alas the hearts through eyes have wept amain

Their Judgment Day has come in this world.

As if resurrected already while life remains
