وَاِجعَلand set عَلَيهِover him مِنَagainst المَكارِهِmisfortunes واقِياa protector
O Lord, preserve the guardian of Hashim’s dynasty,
O my Lord, preserve the guardian of Hashim's realm,
and set over him a shield of noble virtues.
and set over him a protector against misfortunes.
مِنfrom أَينَwhere مِثلُكَyour equal لاnot أَراهُI see him باقِياًenduring
فيماin what يَكونُwill be وَلاnor أَراهُI see him ماضِياin the past
Whence could his equal come? I see none abiding
Where is your equal? I see none enduring
in what is yet to be, nor do I see one in ages past.
in times to come, nor do I see one in times past.
وَكَأَنَّماand as though سامىhe vied in eminence with أَباهُhis father وَجَدَّهُand his grandfather
إِذsince لَمdid not يَجِدfind فيamong العالَمينَall mankind مُسامِياa rival in eminence
It is as though he vied with his father and grandfather,
And it is as though he vied with his father and grandfather in eminence,
since in all creation he found no peer to vie with.
since he found no rival among all mankind.
كاناthey both were لَعَمريby my life عالِيَينِexalted عَلىabove الوَرىmankind

By my life, those two stood exalted above mankind,
By my life, those two stood high above mankind,
and above them both—beyond doubt—he has risen.
and he has, beyond doubt, risen higher than them both.

May he ever abide amid blessings newly bestowed upon him,
May he never cease to enjoy blessings newly bestowed on him,
and blessings of old that remain upon him just as they are.
and old blessings that remain with him just as they are.
